Should I go or should I stay?

Sometimes the going gets tough - in a relationship, a job, or almost any other kind of life situation. Invariably, we start to ask ourselves: "Do I still belong here?" Is now the time to throw in the towel, to jump ship, to move on? Usually, we already know the answer. We just have to ask ourselves the right question.

Here's the question I propose when clients come to me with these sorts of situations. Ask yourself: "Is it currently in alignment with my highest path and purpose to be in this situation right now?"

If the situation, no matter how difficult, is still in alignment with your highest path and purpose, there is still something left to learn. Although you may not be having much fun, the difficulties you're experiencing are bringing about great growth. Your situation feels purposeful, even as you are being challenged. The way we overcome obstacles can teach us much about who we are - and who we are not. Sometimes, we choose to learn through negative learning experiences. If your situation still aligns with your highest path and purpose, you will feel that leaving now would be missing an opportunity - a "cop-out." And somewhere deep inside you, you may even know that you would just recreate the same situation again in the future, because it is what will catapult you forward on your path of growth.

If, on the other hand, the situation no longer is aligned with your highest good, the difficulties and obstacles you are facing feel entirely pointless. You are no longer learning anything about yourself - you're just stuck in aimless, constant struggle. You create coping mechanisms that allow you to get by. These coping mechanisms have little to do with authentic expression of your Soul purpose - and you know it. They take you further and further away from who you truly are. Eventually, just enduring your situation can take so much energy that there is little left over for anything else. The longer you stay, the harder it is to move on.

Your highest path and purpose is the path of greatest growth. We feel a sense of fulfillment on this path, even if it contains obstacles we must overcome. It is the path that brings us to the truest expression of our Soul self. To stay in a situation that does not align with this path is to deny ourselves this self-expression. It's time to move on!

Blessings,
Andrea
