What IS Bliss?
Is "bliss" something that some of us can't touch? Is it a place where some people are not allowed to go there? Or is it something we all have been a part of and know a little something about?
I am going to think now about some of the ways, some of the times and situations where I felt completely "Blissed Out!" and write them down. I am going to suggest too, that you take a moment to think about what brings you some bliss...because I think we have all known it, and that Bliss IS something we all know about, that it is the "best parts" of being human...and~ being partly divine!
I recall feeling really in my element, really blissful feeling the power in my limbs as I was swimming in the ocean, and when I was younger feeling the water of a lake or river all about me as I did little tricks and swam about, i recall feeling so....just feeling really at home in water, something about the water enveloping and keeping me, touching every part of me and accepting me fully. Water ~ even a really warm bath, or awhile spent in a hot tub....tends to make me feel "blissful".
Sunbathing....I know it is supposed to be harmful if you do it for long at all, but it also produces a soothing warmth on your skin, and we don't have to stay until it burns, just a little while....enough to put a bit of warmth inside, and give a tiny glow...enough to get our vitamin K no? I think the best most perfect spot to lie in the sun is in a bath of quartz....in sand. Did you know that sand is made up of a lot of quartz? How can that not be good, lying in crystals of crushed quartz, taking in the rays of sunlight...to me, pure Bliss!
Okay...there are ways even those who have not been to the ocean or a beach may feel blissed!
Remember the activities of childhood that made you happy? Really happy? For bliss is happiness with a capitol "B"! Big juicy happy feelings...what gave you those? Children are probably best at feeling this very real emotion. They don't let it slip away as easily as adults do. They try to savor and save it and keep it coming, if they get a great feeling in their belly when they swoop on their bike over a certain section of a road, they do it over and over again, they want to STAY in bliss for about as long as you will let them. We could do this too...we must find our bliss more and more so we will know what to do when we are needing to unwind from stress.
The mountains, taking treks up in the mountains has given me so much happy times! I have had a very difficult and harrowing life at times, but there were moments I have memory of that no one can ever "better" for me too. There are happy moments of being in nature...exploring the greenery with my eyes....looking at all the beauty, breathing it in...the forest loam is an incredible ancient odor. It makes me feel so close to the earth. The sounds coming from an occasional critter scuffling in the brush or a bird or two...then deep silence. If you have never walked in the mountains, you will have no idea what you are missing! Get yourself there...get the experience of the brook babbling 'tween your toes" while you watch a little salamander slip from a rock and go squiggling by. If you can't get to mountains get as close as you can.
Wind~ I love the wind...gentle and hard, I love it. I take so much pleasure from a windy day it is almost silly. Maybe it is because i was told it is okay to appreciate this somehow, I have noticed that some people see the wind as an irritant...and balk at my happiness on a breeze. I always tell people that I just love the wind, and I love the feeling of life it carry's with it. It is like the day now has life to it when the wind picks up, and life is pretty nice, after all.
So far this has been mostly about natures bounty, and how that bring bliss to me, but there are many other things that can give great happiness. Some of them are completely unhealthy too, though, so be careful. Using harsh chemicals in abusive ways...overuse, can tear down your system, and make you a regular basket case mentally too. Don't find yourself making a habit of drugs for your bliss, that is so dangerous. Oh I know about it, I did it...tried almost all of them, I can tell you things, but that was not too much about bliss. It was ~ but the fallout, whoa! I would find more healthy alternatives to getting a drug hobby. Hobby is habit. Don't let it become a foul habit, that is when you have been taken over by a substance. And bliss may be the ability to run things for yourself. Not have a drug running you around. Same with alcohol, don't let alcohol lord over your activities, it has a place, beneath you...not above. Moderate drinking is best, if you don't know what that is. maybe you should quit for awhile and gain that perspective.
Bliss might also be getting into your family, your pets and your children. Remember to respect your children! They deserve bliss too. They are not here to have you abuse or neglect them, they are here to taste what it means to be human and to learn from this experience just as you were. the best way to experience the bliss of children is to remember...remember being young, younger still...remember how it felt, how time passed, what you loved. Give your kids allowances for those same feelings. Try not to be one of those people who puts all kinds of pressure on a kid. Life is for them to decide too. Do the things for them that you wanted people to do for you. It is easy to get into your kids, and they deserve it too. Visit old people in your family, if you don't have any close, get some elders...they are awesome, usually...even grouchy ones are fun. I love my kids and old folks. They give me blissful moments to remember now. Be good to your pets, they are creatures who, if watched, can teach us a whole lot about being content. And they love you, even when you are a pain. Just bliss out and let joy come into the situation around family, and if you are about to say i don't have that, then remember we are all family and go out and create one of the people in your area, they will probably let you. People need the joy of kinship.
Well I could go on and on I think but, it's a start. Amazingly I feel i could do pages more about this topic. Bliss, to me is a large dose of joy, of happiness, and we all feel it, if for just a heartbeat at times. What we need to learn is how to expand on that heartbeat, and allow ourselves more time with it. We may need to replace the nightly news (which causes some of us depression) with a bliss seeking game with ourselves. Yes...every single day if you like. Find out what makes you happy and do it more. It may be reading books, taking a walk around your block and stopping to chat with anyone who seems to have the time. it may be exercise or eating a bowl of your favorite ice cream, or preferably both, one after the other. Making love with a partner instead of television?
We must take care of our self, our person, who we are deserves as much happiness as a child, if you want to know more about bliss, if you want to feel charged up with it just do that. No-one can stop you really, no one I can think of right now. Phsssaww! No one can! You are the ruler of your own destiny people! So ~ get the notion and go jump in the ocean! Er...Go find YOUR forms of Bliss!
