Metatron?

This wasn't actually a dream, but since it occurred in the middle of the night and I was in bed, I'll post it here:

Middle of night, and I'm in that in-between state of awake and sleep- I believe it's called the hypnogogic state- anyway, suddenly in my mind I hear, in a male voice, the word "Metatron". That's it, nothing more. But it was crystal clear. I went back to sleep and remembered it when I woke next A.M. I was only barely familiar with the word, I knew it was the name of some "being", but I didn't know anything else. Upon researching, I discovered that Metatron is one of the highest ranking angels in the so-called heirarchy of the angels; he sits on the throne next to God! I read some more and learned a little more about him; he's the scribe, similar to Thoth-Hermes of Egypt, he's fiercely protective of small children, his female counterpart is the Shekinah, etc. All very interesting, and I'm still a little confused as to why I heard his name in my head. Could it be that he's letting me know that I can call on him? Kind of a way to open the lines of communication?

I don't know... any ideas, anyone?
I did find it fascinating, though.
