Spiritual Surgery - Truth and God
This is an article I wrote for the Student Magazine - Greenwich Telescope - at the University of Greenwich. Thought It would be nice to post it. Of course this was written to try and get the general 'Joe Public' to listen and recognise Truth for them, so it is not really necessary for us believers here in God (whatever form you wanna take It) and/or Divine Perfect Unconditional Love. Spiritual Surgery
‘Truth and God’
This is a new series of articles that discuss all things God, Ghosts and Goblins! To start off these articles I would like to start with Atheism. Strange place to start, you may say, but it is the best place to start if you want to discuss God and Truth!
I want to alert you to ‘belief systems’, of which Atheism is but one, which means that you Dawkinist’s out there are no different than you spiritually inclined people! Both are system’s that try and make sense of your world… in other words, your reality is a product of your own thoughts! There is no nicer way of saying that Truth is God.
Atheist friends: Your God’less universe/life seems bleak and nasty… a ‘Bitter-Sweet Symphony’.
Theist dudes: Your God filled world can be filled with joy because, after all, ‘All You Need Is Love.’
Of course there is a difference, I hear you rant! Well of course there is! It is all about perspective! “Really real, what is, you say…hum?” Yoda points out that this is the big mystery. What is real? Who am I, really, beneath this image I present to the world?
Are you just a bag of genes (Levi’s preferably), a hodgepodge of molecules, with a mind created by luck? Or, are you more like Master Yoda, and realise that there is a Force out there that we have popped out of and that we can use in this life!
Science, religion and philosophy have all tried to find this allusive thing called ‘Truth’… but in many respects they have all failed or missed the mark like Robin Hood without his glasses! What do you mean, ‘missed the mark’? Surely religion is the Truth, you may holler? You have got to think that if we really knew and lived the Truth, it would be that which brings about total world happiness and hippy loving goodness… if Love isn’t rooted in the heart of Belief, it’s rooted in nothing!
So let’s forget God as God for a moment, and call It Perfect Love! What is Perfect Love? I’ve never experienced Perfect Love… well I ask you, surely your feelings here are rooted in this Love: To say you haven’t experienced it doesn’t mean that outside your mole-hole that it is non-existent!
But you still may truly feel like this Love is non-existent for you! And you feel exactly what you think you feel! These feelings are the sum total of every fear/anger/hurtful thoughts creating this illusion… yes; illusion… because we are creative beings (thankfully so or we would never have made chocolate)!
Yet, my philosophy friends, Descartes tells us that we can never experience mind, we only know it is there through it’s thoughts. Why then is God any different if It loves us so? Why would not this Perfect Love not want all of It’s beings to be perfectly aware of It’s Love, and totally ecstatic in it?
The big question that you should be asking is not whether God exists as the First Cause or not, but ‘Why am I not experiencing God in my life’? This is not be sniffed at! Understanding this question is key to understanding life and all its quibbles. Find the answer to this, and you forge your path to Truth. Next issue we will be fleshing this topic out more!
