Listen to The Music
I have been thinking about this for a while, and tonight sitting here after dinner I decided it was time to simply fish or cut bait!!!!! So here I am jumping in with both feet!!!!
Much of my spiritual work is rooted in music. I hear a tune and I get an impression of what God is trying to say to me. So to that end I have been thinking of starting a blog series called Music of the Ascension, since the Ascension is in process.
My first choice for a tune or artist/group was actually different from my choice for the first artist. But the first choice needs to be a good summary of the purpose of the series, to get people to listen to what the music they are listening to is actually saying.
Before I announce my first choice for music of the ascension, there is some more material I need to explain. Music is how our soul talks to us. Sometimes I hear some music and I will actually get a shiver down my spine. That is the soul’s way of hitting you over the head and saying “sit up and take note, this is important!!!!!!!!”
So music is how the soul expresses itself, and God is present in everyone/everywhere. It is also true that while everyone is on a journey (mine happens to be a journey of faith – hence the blog title), everyone’s journey is on a different level, so different music is going to talk to different people. I have gotten to the point where I can hear God in most music and see him everywhere, but there is some music that stands out more than others. This is the music that sends shivers down my spine.
So now it is time to announce the first tune. It is by the Doobie Brothers – the title is Listen to the music. The tune also holds special meaning to me, coming from two occasions. The first one is from high school. Our school had a Class Night. The first part was an awards ceremony for the graduating class. Differnet scholarships were awarded, band and chorus honored their graduates, stuff like that. The second part was an entertainment put on by the graduating class, and was a song/dance/skit extravaganza. The tune that we opened the second part was – you guessed it – Listen to the music. The closing tune was also a Doobie Brothers tune, but that is for another time.
The second occasion was from when I started my journey of faith. The beginning of my journey was centered around an area where I grew up called Valentines Flats. I was talking to my “teacher” on my cell phone and I was told to “listen to the music.” At the time I needed to, but that was also God’s way of telling me to listen to the music for my journey of faith.
Here are the lyrics I picked up off of www.lyricspedia.com
Don´t you feel it growin´ day by day,
people gettin´ ready for the news.
Some are happy, some are sad
You got to let the music play.
What the people need is a way to make em smile,
it aint so hard to do if you know how.
Have got to get a message, get it on through,
now mama´s go n´ to after while.
Wohoo Woh, listen to the music,
Wohoo Woh, listen to the music,
Wohoo Woh, listen to the music, all the time.
Well, I know you know better, everything I say,
meet me in the country for a day.
We will be happy & we will dance,
we are going to dance our blues away.
And if I am feelin´ good to you
and you are feelin´ good to me
there aint nothin´ we can not do or say.
Feelin´ good, feeling fine, Oh, baby, let the music play.
Wohoo Woh, listen to the music,
Wohoo Woh, listen to the music,
listen to the music, all the time.
Like a lazy flowing river surrounding castles in the sky.
And the crowd is growing bigger,
list´nin´ for the happy sounds & I got to let them fly.
Wohoo Woh, listen to the music,
listen to the music,
Wohoo Woh,oh, oh listen to the music, all the time
