A Heavenly April Fool Stars to Celebrate!
Two Full Moons in Scorpio for 2008!
By Dikki-Jo Mullen, Astrologer
As All Fool’s Day nears, the heavens are about to play an amazing two month long April Fool’s Day trick on us all! It involves the Moon. Almost always the Full Moon will fall in each zodiac sign once a year. The spring of 2008, a time when all of the rules we’ve all been accustomed to for so long are already evaporating anyway, brings two Full Moons in the sign of Scorpio. The first is April 20 at 6:25 am EDT, at 0 degrees Scorpio, the second will be at 29 degrees Scorpio on May 19 at 10:11 pm EDT. Each zodiac sign has 30 degrees, spanning from 0 to 29, so this double lunation is a really close call, but it definitely falls under the rays of the Scorpion. Like a watchful, mysterious dragon, the mysterious gaze from Pluto will bring transformation, illuminate secrets and highlight intense emotional creative expression. The ecology of water, including melting polar ice, can be a really significant issue. The healing qualities of water, aquatic animals and rainfall can all be in our thoughts.
Check your own natal chart for placements in Scorpio, then consider which house cusp(s) is ruled by Scorpio to get a clear picture of exactly what this extra burst of lunar light will brighten in your own life.
Long ago a famous experiment in astrological gardening found that the seeds planted at the Scorpio Moon brought the hardiest plants to life. A wonderful way to direct this volatile double dose of Scorpio influence would be to do extra work in your garden. Think of adding edible plants, ecologically friendly yards to conserve valuable water and removing any dangerous tree limbs or other hazards. The orchid is the flower of Scorpio, its meaning is beauty and refinement. Add an orchid to your altar to harmonize with the energies in force now.
The Full Moon in Scorpio is linked to Buddha’s Birthday and to White Lotus Day. It is a highly spiritual cycle, awakening the truth of higher destiny. Death and rebirth metaphors will abound. It is also called the Hare Moon (think of the Easter Bunny, the spirit of creativity and the celebration of new life). The Native Americans call this the Moon of Frog Birth, suggesting passion and abundant life, think of a swarm of tadpoles. The Full Moon of May is also called The Flower Moon, in honor of Mayday and the season of Flowering.
The April 20 lunation is followed by a Sun-Pluto trine. Recovery from setbacks is promised and needed support can be enlisted. Survival and revival are assured. The May 19 Full Moon will aspect Neptune, opening the realms of fantasy and dreams. Expect a highly emotional and otherworldly mood to be present. Since Senator Hillary Clinton is a Scorpio, the Double Full Moons will probably mark very revealing turning points in the future of not only her presidential campaign but her entire public life.

April Fool’s Day After Thoughts
Smiles from Dikki-Jo
The origins of this day, widely celebrated as it is, are obscure. It’s a time when innocent practical jokes (think of salt in the sugar bowl?) are accepted. So is sending the unsuspecting out on a fool’s errand, hence the proverbial wild goose chase. Some say April Fool’s Day goes back to the time of Noah’s Ark, when the dove went out on a fruitless mission to seek land that wasn’t there. Others link it to the Gregorian calendar. When adopted the new calendar made days of time from the old style Julian calendar evaporate. The uncertainty of weather near the vernal equinox plays a role in meeting the cosmic trickster. A Roman festival called Cerealia and a festival from India called Huli reflect the temperamental April weather which can fool plants and people alike.
In 18th Century England the custom of April Fool’s Day came into its own, with elaborate pranks. In Scotland hunting a nonexistent cuckoo bird was part of the “fun“. Rubber mice, pepper candy, a purse on a string, a warning that items borrowed today need not be returned … all are part of the good natured foolery. Italy, France, Spain, Portugal and Mexico all have embraced the custom of honoring the absurdity of life itself with special days. Part of the joke is that not all places celebrate the feast of All Fools at the same time! The end of April as well as December 28 have been reserved for jest. April Fool’s Day provides an escape from the solemn and somber business of daily survival. Winter will end and spring is on the mend.
“Humor is like salt on food, a little makes all things palatable.” This Native American Proverb offers sage advice, helpful on All Fool’s Day … whenever it is celebrated!
