http://www.earthhour.org is the definitive source but this note may save you some time. Earth Hour asks people to turn off their lights between the hours of 8:00 pm and 9:00pm on March 29th. You aren’t necessarily agreeing to do this in order to reduce your personal energy consumption and decrease your personal environmental footprint (although turning your lights off will incrementally accomplish these things). Rather, by agreeing to participate, you are:

1) Acknowledging that you have an environmental footprint and that your energy use is part of a bigger picture.

2) Demonstrating that you are willing to do something to “stand up and be counted”. You are showing that you care.

3) Potentially starting down a path. Remember, the journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step.

4) Adding your “voice” to a lot of other “voices” which collectively transmit a message to politicians and decision makers. If too few participate…that sends one kind of message. If a lot of people participate…a whole different kind of message. Apathy is the enemy!!
