Mayan Prophecy

Both the ancient Mayans and the Aztecs believed that there had been four previous ages before our own. You can see the similarity in that belief in the last article about the Hopi prophecies. Many of the indigenous people believed that there had been many civilizations that rose and fell before their present one. Actually, given the advancement of our technology versus the existence of the Earth, it has taken us a very, very, very long time to achieve what we have achieved. One might reason that we would be far more advanced. But, what if there had been advanced civilizations on the Earth that wiped themselves out and left only the survivors to pick up the pieces and start all over again from square one.

The Mayans were a very advanced race of people in many ways, but also very primitive and superstitious in others. They did practice human sacrifice to a Sun God, in the form of human hearts. But, in spite of that, they left us a calendar that is a challenge and a puzzle for our modern day experts.

The 7th century Mayan prophet Pacal Votan left a message in his tomb which rings loud and clear in the world of today. His words: “If humanity wishes to save itself from biospheric destruction it must return to living in natural time.” To put this more simplistically, humankind must look more at the cause and effect that technology is having on the earth and the environment rather than how much wealth and prestige it can accumulate.

According to the Mayan calendar, the grand cycle of evolution which we are presently experiencing will end on the winter solstice, December 21, 2012. The Mayans are not alone in the belief of the end of this cycle. The Hopi, ancient Egyptians, Kabbalists, Aborigines, and many of the indigenous people from around the world also concur that we are experiencing an ending before a new beginning. The other thing these people share are calendars which are based on the Precession of the Equinoxes. The way the calendar works is that the Earth transits through each of the 12 zodiacal signs for about 2152 years each. Each of these astrological transits represents one month of the Grand Cosmic Year. This is the close of that 26,000 year cycle.

The Mayan calendar literally ends on Dec. 21, 2012. The ancient Mayans believed that as we passed forward through these 26,000 year cycles, our consciousness would begin to “wake up” and “enlightenment” would follow. So, basically they believed that when the time came one cosmic door would close and another would open.

Interestingly enough, this is also similar to the Christian belief in Armageddon and consequent ascension of the spirit. The Bible also points toward this time in our history.

There have always been dire and doomsday predictions that the world would end on certain dates, and obviously that has not as yet happened. We have always had the prophets, psychics, mediums, fortune tellers, mystics, etc. in every generation and in every civilization who claim to have advance notice of the end of the world.

But, in this case, we are talking about beliefs that have been handed down from generation to generation, native and indigenous people who have always kept there spiritual practices sacred and secret suddenly coming forth with warnings, and even an Earth that seems to be telling us she has had enough of our foolishness.

Well, I guess the only way to find out is to wait until December 21, 2012. I plan to be ready that day with plenty of chocolate, a bottle of lemon Perrier, and perhaps a cup of Starbucks coffee.

Reminds me of a song:

Crosby Stills Nash & Young - Woodstock Lyrics

Well I came across a child of God
He was walking along the road
And I asked him tell where are you going
This he told me:

Well I am going down to Yasgur's farm
Going to join in a rock and roll band
Goin' to get back to the land to set my soul free

We are stardust, we are golden
We are ten billion year old carbon
And we got to get ourselves back to the garden

Well then can I walk beside you
I have come to lose the smog
And I feel like I'm a cog in something turning

And maybe it's the time of year
Yes and maybe it's the time of man
And I don't know who I am
But life is for learning

We are stardust, we are golden
We are ten billion year old carbon
And we got to get ourselves
back to the garden

By the time we got to Woodstock
We were half a million strong
And everywhere there was
song and celebration

And I dreamed I saw the bombers jet planes
Riding shotgun in the sky
Turning into butterflies
Above our nation.

We are stardust, we are golden
We are ten billion year old carbon
And we got to get ourselves back to the garden
