Welcome to the 133rd edition of Lunar Rhythms, where I hope to inspire a greater appreciation for the Moon’s influence and offer some practical ways to coordinate our efforts with prevailing lunar energy. This week the Moon travels through Gemini, Cancer, and Leo; and the First Quarter Moon and waxing Gibbous Moon phases. My primary intent in communicating this information is to encourage us all to entertain possibilities.

MOON IN GEMINI

The Moon two-steps into Gemini on March 12th at 11:55am MDT. Gemini symbolizes communication, with the choice to disseminate waffling, wit, or wisdom. It has the task of understanding the magically creative power of words.

The Gemini Moon coaxes us to inquire who nourishes us when we talk to them, and who we enjoy nourishing through images or words. We can investigate what parts of our life could use clarity and to what parts of the world we would send clarity.

Home & Garden – The Moon in Gemini is an effective time to organize our home office; pay bills, and catch up on neglected correspondence. The Gemini Moon’s dry barren nature supports land cultivation as we begin preparation for spring sowing.

Mind, Body & Health – Gemini Moon energy encourages us to consider what our essential and divine message in life is and seek to cultivate that message to its utmost. This is an excellent time to focus on re-centering ourselves and being more mindful of what we say; especially if we have been overly critical and negative with our words. Writing in a journal, chanting, and writing and reciting poetry are effective methods to diffuse nervous tension. And, we can utilize breath work in the form of meditation, tai chi, and yoga to draw in good oxygen to vitalize our entire system and strengthen our nerves. Contacting friends, enrolling in a computer course, or joining a debating society are all excellent ways to cultivate our wellbeing. Furthermore, we might undermine ourselves if we scatter our energy being too easily distracted and beginning one job before finishing another. Nervous tension, nervous exhaustion, agitation, and restlessness are often more pronounced under this Moon’s influence.

Business & Financial –The Gemini Moon fosters enterprises associated with communicating, and as such, correspondence, giving presentations and business trips can be quite lucrative at this time. In addition to being considered a favourable Moon under which to buy a car, we can direct our purchases toward communication tools, such as computers, telephones, and writing materials; gadgets and toys; and, books and dictionaries. Moreover, we benefit if we avoid distraction from issues, long and/or far flung shopping excursions, and being underhanded.

FIRST QUARTER MOON

The First Quarter Moon on March 14th at 4:47am MDT in Gemini reveals that we may be skating over difficulties. However, we can get around difficult situations by making the most of them or evading them as we find creative and seemingly childlike solutions to problems. Carefully planning each step and treading gingerly paying attention and making adjustments to prevailing conditions can get us through when we feel we are on thin ice.

Home & Garden – March 10th & 11th are the best days to move house this quarter and, along with, are very favourable for interior design projects. The First Quarter’s combination of strong moonlight and reduced lunar gravitational pull creates strong leaf growth, which brings rapid germination and growth making it an excellent time to plants seeds and sow lawns.

Mind, Body & Health – The First Quarter Moon often brings our hidden fears and doubts to the surface, triggered by resistance or antagonism from others, who may be uncomfortable with changes we are making. It is a good time to breathe accord into relationships, both with ourselves and others.

Business & Financial – This phase is effective for practical application of our talents making it a optimal time to set projects in motion, announce mergers, and launch advertising ventures.

MOON IN CANCER

The Moon sidesteps into Cancer on March 14th at 2:39pm MDT. Cancer represents emotional relatedness through which its key idea of Mother and its thematic principle of feeling function. It is associated with deep emotion, compassion, empathy, and a powerful sensitivity. Its task is finding balance between protecting and smothering friends and family.

The Cancer Moon implores us to examine how we have made our house, our home, and our food vitally important components of our happiness. We can broaden this inquiry throughout our life by looking at which parts of us need a safe place for new life to grow, in order to incubate the best of us. And, where we would send the spirit of mother: to put her arms around a person or situation; offering emotional safety to heal or to grow.

Home & Garden – The Moon in Cancer is the optimal time to seek or purchase a house. This is an excellent time to clean windows, silver, china, and crystal; to sweep away trash or residue; and, to open up the windows to clear out stale smells and emotions. And, it is an ideal time to work on our home’s interior, soft furnishings, and to rearrange furniture. The Cancer Moon’s moist fertile nature is very fruitful and encourages hardiness and abundance. It is considered the best sign for planting and transplanting, with a special affinity for tomatoes, cucumbers, and corn.

Mind, Body & Health – Cancer Moon energy elicits a greater degree of emotion than usual and, if we let these feelings come, this can be a powerful time to process anything that is causing undue stress and worry or is stagnant in us. We can make progress in healing rifts and past hurts with our family under its influence. This Moon offers a deep and nourishing environment for our emotional life, in which we can release emotional pain through crying, as we allow the tears to dissolve tension and strengthen our connection to the water element’s principle of nurturance and protection. Visiting our parents and looking up our ancestry can connect us to our roots and nurture our sense of wellbeing. Furthermore, we might weaken ourselves if we meddle in other’s affairs and are over-clingy. Worry, moodiness, stomach upsets, and skin problems often manifest under this Moon’s influence.

Business & Financial –The Cancer Moon promotes signing documents, setting up a crèche, and ending unsatisfactory conditions. In addition to being considered the optimal Moon under which to buy a house, we can spend money on monthly essentials (food), buying for the home (kitchen equipment, china, linens, household knick-knacks), and for loved ones (presents and greeting cards). And, we ought to avoid a reluctance to take risks; being over-sensitive to criticism; and/or, shopping near our workplace.

MOON IN LEO

The Moon mamba’s into Leo on March 16th at 7:05pm MDT. Leo’s imperative is that it must create. It offers us the understanding that the creative energy we emanate does not originate with us. Its task is to have our heart impulse governed by authentic generosity. And, its quandary is whether to create high theatre or to live melodrama.

The Leo Moon is a splendid time to ask ourselves how we can see our need for affirmation and applause as healthy when it alerts us to where we are appreciated. We can radiate this analysis throughout our life by imagining what area of our life we would like to receive spontaneous joy; and, to whom we would send the generous heart of creativity to give them a sense of humour and pleasure in life.

Home & Garden – The Leo Moon invites love and laughter into a home purchased under its influence. This is a brilliant time to throw a dinner party, where we serve exotic food on our best china. And, it is a superb time for interior design projects. The Leo Moon’s dry barren nature is suitable for pruning, weeding, and destroying pests; however, the waxing Moon is not recommended for these activities.

Mind, Body & Health – The Leo Moon is a magnificent time to combat feeling cold and closed off by being silly, taking risks, and telling those we love that we love them. If we have been feeling dull, lethargic, and tired, we are more able to play, stimulate creativity; recharge our battery; and, rekindle our fire under this Moon’s influence. And, we amplify our wellness when we do yogic sun salutations and dance to raise our heart rate, throw off toxins, and, transform depression into joy. However; indulging in resentment, feelings of insignificance, or imagining no one appreciates us closes our heart and diminishes our vitality. And, we are more susceptible to backache and circulatory problems under a Leo Moon.

Business & Financial – The Leo Moon is advantageous for lucky breaks, taking control of the situation, and leasing or renting property. Although we must avoid overspending, silk lingerie, champagne, theatre tickets, and/or anything gold are purchases that will appeal to our extravagant mood. And, we ought to avoid forming intimate relationships with colleagues, and a domineering attitude under this Moon’s influence.

WAXING GIBBOUS

The Moon is in the waxing Gibbous phase and will reach exact on March 17th at 4:57pm MDT. With three quarters of the Moon bathed in the light of the Sun, all is being slowly revealed. It is the time to clarify, to be enquiring about new aspects that are coming to light in order that our efforts will result in enlightenment in the next phase. We are able to channel our efforts more easily to attract a new quality or behavior; to attain personal and spiritual growth; to increase the light within; and, for greater awareness. We can promote our image, or bask in the Sun and watch our projects develop their own momentum. With the picture almost complete, this is the time to analyze what we have accomplished and revise what we have done so far.

This phase can feel like a pressure cooker; however, it provides us with the opportunity to perfect the form we’ve created so it can function effectively. As it approaches i.e. in the hours leading up to it, we require perseverance to push through and push open; and, consistent application of our energies demonstrates our inner commitment to our self. As we push past limitations of self to a new level of self-confidence and we integrate our greater potential with personal will. And, just after we reach this phase there is a strong desire to connect and involve with others and we may find the outer and opposite alluring; a time of exploration and involvement with others. This is a time to mix and mingle; a pollinating phase that is typically a social time. If we make adjustments with a positive attitude we can be rewarded with clarity under the Full Moon.

The waxing Gibbous Moon brings a period of reflection and expectation as our efforts are blossoming and our energy is focused on refining our vision. We are inclined to search for understanding, seek resources for self-discovery, and be more concerned with personal growth. This is considered the ‘self-improvement’ phase and we can utilize this energy to clarify our personal goals and create a plan of action to develop them.

MOON MEANDERINGS

I find that people are rather discombobulated for a week or so when the time shifts from standard to daylight savings as our internal clocks adjust. As I headed home around 8pm the other night the sky was still the deep blue of twilight and there about half way up the western sky shone the Crescent Moon. It lay on its back with the ‘horns’ pointing upward and the shadow of the full Moon visible. This particular configuration is described as ‘Old Moon in New Moon’s arms’. It reminds us that as we move through the various lunar phases we carry forward the wisdom from the previous dark Moon phase as we begin to build our new ventures and the more we can consciously incorporate our insights, the more solid are the projects we can create. And, in whimsically magical interpretations we can connect with the delight of the wonderful show available to all if we lift our eyes heavenward and admire the Creator’s handiwork. Saturn and the star Regulas (heart star of constellation Leo) will again be visible around the Moon, to the lower left, this week as it moves toward full.

THE LARGER CELESTIAL STAGE

The Moon dances through her cycle against the cosmic backdrop of ever shifting planetary positions, relationships, and alliances.

Mars, retracing its steps, reentered Cancer on March 4th; Venus moves into Pisces on March 12th; and, Mercury joins Venus, the Sun and Uranus in Pisces on March 14th at 4:47pm MDT. With Pluto and Jupiter in Capricorn; Saturn in Virgo; and, Neptune in Aquarius the celestial stage is dominated by receptive water and earth energies that tend to draw experiences toward us rather than influencing us to initiate action. And, with mutable (Pisces and Virgo) and cardinal (Cancer and Capricorn) energy forms prominent there is a movable quality to cosmic energy these days. With only Uranus, the planet of sudden and unpredictable change, in fixed air, we may be feeling that we are missing solid anchors that tend to stabilize our lives.

Mars Back in Direct Motion

Reddish gold Mars is visible just after sunset high in the southern sky. It is again in Cancer as it regains ground it last occupied around Christmas 2007, when it was most visible and about twice as close to Earth. Mars went into retrograde motion in Mid November 2007 and backed all the way into Gemini before moving direct again in late January 2008. It will be the first week of April before Mars finally reaches new ground. During this extended review of our actions since Mid September 2007 we may find we are discovering the consequences and ramifications showing up in our lives now. Mars will continue to express through Cancer until early May and our actions tend to be protective, sensitive, imaginative, moody, parental, and indirect during this time. And, we are motivated by safety, nurturance, closeness, family, and familiarity. In addition, our anger is emotional, sullen, private, and moody; whereas our libido is romantic, intimate, nurturing imaginative. We can connect more consciously with this Mars’ energy expression by examining how we can own our feelings and not bury them, particularly when we are angry.

Venus Moves to New Territory

On March 12th at 4:22pm MDT, Venus leaves the detached airy realm of Aquarius for a more intuitive and spiritual expression in Pisces. Venus is exalted in Pisces, where it has a special relationship that exaggerates and idealizes our romantic qualities. This tends to bring a craving for ideal love that is almost mystical. And, the idea that love can transcend any obstacle brings the capacity for selfless dedication. With Venus expressing through Pisces, we may express love through romance, sensitivity, self-sacrifice, eroticism, affection, caring, and gentleness. Our taste becomes more sublime, soft, delicate, erotic, and nature oriented. In addition, we want love, romance, peacefulness, fluidity, and blending. We are more likely to feel loved when we are in a safely intimate situation; shown kindness and understanding; and, are allowed to shift and change. We can more consciously connect to Venus in Pisces by exploring how we treasure people who unmask and let the light of the soul shine through; and, how we are treasured when we unmask.

Mercury Changes Signs

Mercury moves into Pisces on March 14th at 4:47pm MDT and gives us vivid imagination and acute visualization ability as our thinking becomes more emotionally based. Mercury represents our instinct to communicate. In Pisces, it raises the question of what means of communication have we chosen to focus our gift for articulating the spirit behind the form of things. When Mercury is expressing through the mutable water of Pisces, it invites our minds to work sensitively, nonverbally, whimsically, psychically, indiscriminately creatively, and illogically. Learning occurs most easily when our imagination is stimulated; we love what we are learning; and, the atmosphere is gentle and caring. And, communication is compassionate, imaginative, shy, intuitive, creative, and indistinct.

Pluto’s New Arena

When Pluto moved into Capricorn on January 25th at 8:38pm MST it began a sixteen year process of transformation on the structures of society, tradition, and authority. Pluto represents our instinct to express power and it burns away the conditioned voice of family and society that limits our vision of what is possible for us and for the world. As Pluto occupies the ultimate sign of worldly achievement it opens the possibility of establishing a New World Order based on in-depth understanding of pragmatic reality united with a deep respect for material power to be illuminated by the Light of Transcendence.

It works in three phases: the first is disruption of the outer world that catalyzes descent into the Underworld based on taking away whatever we think we need for a secure sense of identity; the second is not knowing and through those places where we are resistant to life we are provided the opportunity to become more open; and the third is authentic rebirth as we acquiesce to a larger Will and say, ‘whatever best serves the divine, let it work through me’.

On a personal level, we will experience Pluto’s influence in the area of our life where Capricorn is in our natal chart. We can elevate the process looking at how we can help birth training schools for teachers destined to teach teachers.

WISE WORDS: ‘When you come to the end of all the light you know, and it’s time to step into the darkness of the unknown, faith is knowing that one of two things shall happen: Either you will be given something solid to stand on or you will be taught to fly.’ -Edward Teller
