Beautiful

“Jimmy can I ask you something,” Delilah said hugging her body for a warmth she didn’t feel while their midnight encounter. “Yeah sure make in quick I have to go to court, probation is on my ass again,” he said slipping on his jeans, ragged from the tractor seat and sweat from the sweltering sun. “Jimmy do you think I’m pretty when I sleep?” Jimmy slowed his haste. The morning sun gazed upon the couple reveling his many scars from beatings. His green eyes stared out to the sowed field. Thinking just for the slightest, while he swallowed hard. He turned around “Why Dee of course I think your beautiful” he said as he swooped down to kiss her naked lips. “Hey. Jimmy no, I said do you think I’m pretty when I sleep” she said as she pushed him away. A tear rolled down her cheek and her blue eyes and turned hollow. “Hey what’s matter babe I said your beautiful.” he said disgusted.
She turned her back still naked and venerable to the coldness. “Never mind Jim. Your just like your father.” She taunted him. “Hey!. Do you want to say that again missy? Because when you come prancing around your own two feet, men know you so well they recognize your perfume. Wouldn’t want to talk about that now shall we!” He yelled. For Delilah that was the moment time slowed. The tears flowed to the upturn corners of her mouth bringing them to a middle of her lips. A salty “No” sufficed.
“What was that,” he laughed with a wicked grin on his face. “Huh?’ “Say it again dear, I’d love to hear the clarifications.” He moved slowly to her to where the chill of his voice prickled her skin. He drew back a hand as a hand went across her cheek. “Tell me Dee, what did you say!” She drew back in shock, her hand touched her face still hot from his hand. Her mouth unable to utter a word as her body fell to the ground. He drew back again and slapped her. This time across her ear, which made it ring with bells. Another, this time in the mouth.
Warm waves blood came from her mouth as she cried, dripping to a pool on the floors. He stood their watching. “Ah, get up know, don’t ruin the floor with your mess,” he said blessing her with time to get up on her feet. “Now Dee, you know I love ya, but you just have to learn sweetie that I don’t take…” His voice has gotten louder. “Shit, from LITTLE girls. I’m a grown man baby.”
He was unaware everything he said was just a blur in time. Like looking at a clock and the second hand going backwards. She sniffled afraid to look him in the eyes. “ I have to go, court times coming.” He pulled his shirt on and his boots. Delilah had slipped on her sun dress. She only had one savior, besides the tiny gold cross which lay between her clavicle. Earlier Jimmy had been working on tightening the leg to the wicker night stand.
Borne from her palm lay her only way out. It was a prophecy be hidden behind her back. “J-J-Jimmy,” she said recognizing the pain in her jaw now. He turned, and she raised the screw driver. Eyes grew big, trepidation flew threw the air, and a force stronger than the earth shook they very bottom of Jimmy’s stomach. Hey flew back trying to push Delilah off. Every twist of the driver drew him insane, every turn made him turn in and out. But the scream was empty.
As he lay in his last moments she asked politely “Jimmy, do you think in pretty when I sleep?”
