ABOUT ELEPHANT

My deep love of Elephant began when I was 9 or 10 years old. My mum worked at an animal park so I could go there whenever I liked …. And stay after hours. A group of elephants performed a circus routine twice a day and in-between shows they did an ‘elephant sliegh ride’ for all the kiddies. Lucky me though, I was friendly with the Elephant’s mahout. When the gates were closed and the visitors gone, I was allowed to ride the biggest Elephant as it lead the group down to the dam where they could all have a well-earned swim. These times are some of my fondest memories of childhood.

Ganesh was discovered on my first visit to Bali and he’s been my most cherished Hindu Deity ever since. I learned more about Ganesh when I went to India a few years later. Once, I literally hitched a ride on an Elephant through Paha Ganj, the Main Bazaar area of New Delhi.

More recently, I’ve developed an interest in the elusive and rare Desert Elephant of Mali and Birkina Faso. No, I haven’t managed to see these very very shy Elephants on my trips to the area, maybe next time (you can see desert elephants in Namibia though).

ELEPHANT AS ANIMAL TOTEM

Before the power of Ganesha
All barriers and obstacles are removed.
Through the wisdom of Ganesha
I draw confidence and new opportunities.
Under the love of Ganesha
I learn and grow stronger in all ways.

Ancient Power, Strength, Royalty
An Elephant totem gives you
ancient wisdom and power to draw upon.
It embodies strength and power.
Elephant people often have a very strong sex drive. Through the use of fragrances and incense,
Elephant can guide you to new energies and power.
Elephant people show great affection to their families, caring for the young and the elderly.
They also have an inborn knowledge of roots and plants.
An Elephant will give you insight into the power of the three feminine energies:
child, mother and old wise woman (or crone).
The Hindu god Ganesh, god of overcoming obstacles, is associated with the Elephant.

So, who is YOUR animal totem? Would love for you to share your stories :)

*hugs & sparkles*, Alice.

P.S: I was going to list websites on: Animal Totems; Hindu Deities; and Elephant conservation organisations FYI. However, it seems this is not the place for that ... but if you want some good info, just ask me. :)
