Crashed ship but I was ok

Usually I can figure out the messages of my dreams, or at least some idea. I'm feeling the urge to share this one and get some different ideas on meaning.

Last night I dreamt that I was in a tropical place, only it was cold too. Something like Alaska with the ice and snow, but people were in bathing suits and going swimming also. The sun was bright and it sort of seemed like an island too.

I ended up borrowing a catamaran type ship from the founder of my metaphysical university. There was someone else coming with me. She was steering the boat and I was the passenger. She decided she wanted to read while steering and had her head down looking at her book. I didn't really like that she was doing that but it didn't seem like saying anything would matter. She looked up too late and we crashed into some sort of boat dock or something. We knew the ship was going to sink so we both jumped out and climbed a fence to the pier on the other side of the dock. After that, we looked at the boat which we thought had sunk but instead had shrunk to the size of just a bit bigger than a toy boat.

We went to go find the owner of the boat and tell her what had happened. The woman that was steering didn't really tell the owner that she wasn't paying attention. I didn't squeal on her but also didn't make it look like I did it either. The owner told me that there in (Alaska?) people had to work for 1 whole year to afford a boat like that. I was amazed and told her that where I live people would have to work a lot longer than that to afford that boat. She wasn't horribly upset at what happened. I offered to give her some money for it and instead she gave me $50 for being so upfront with her and willing to pay something towards it even though it wasn't my fault.
