A Question About Controlling the Flood Gates

I have a question for you Lightworkers. I know someone who is very powerful psychically. The thing is that she blocks herself completely because whenever she gets into anything spiritual and she opens up just a little, the flood gates of her mind fling wide open and she gets bombarded by everything. Here's a few examples. When she is open she can not walk into a room full of people because she gets overwhelmed with hearing everyone's thoughts, and she hears them quite loudly. She also has telekinetic powers and can move objects without touching them physically. She also can see disembodied Spirits just as we can see each other. She doesn't see them as apparitions, she sees them as completely solid. She has tried to open herself up many times, and every time this has happened so she has given up completely. My question is how does one in this situation go about controlling the flood gates so they do not burst open wide?
