Obtaining Spiritual Understanding
Obtaining Spiritual Understanding by Gail Gupton
Does one suddenly wake up one normal working week-day and say, "Oh, I
think I want to study the scriptures"? Or, "I think I want some spiritual
understanding today."
Not hardly. A yearning to learn something beyond the human existence
usually comes after some human error or misfortune. It's at that time when
we want answers. The human in us wanders merrily along life's road until
tragedy strikes. It's then we want to know why.
As we enter a new calendar year, many are so involved in their earthly
concerns they never think beyond the physical to the spiritual nature of
things. Listening to the majority of people today reveals they're interested
in resolutions that make them healthy and wealthy, but not spiritually wise.
Solomon asked only for wisdom.
Why do we study spiritual literature??
If Gail doesn't reflect on the spirituality of "I", Gail is at a total
loss. The study of the nature of God's perfection helps me understand I,
too, AM. Sometimes just a simple remembrance of Isaiah's revelation, "I am
God and there is none else" is all it takes. Other times I reflect on the
statement "There is no spot where God is not", or Joel Goldsmith's favorite,
"I and my Father are one".
Realizing and knowing I am one with God makes all things possible.
Confidence is here. Love is here. Life is here. Wisdom is here. . . all
within me, ready to be beheld by those in need; by those who come into my
path.
I study because without it, Gail is missing something. With spiritual
understanding comes warmth and peace that all is well; not necessarily on
the outside world, but on the inside where it matters most. After all, the
kingdom of heaven is within! With calmness and peace, I can rationalize my
human decisions.
When I embarked on my most serious spiritual journey some 25+ years
ago it was because I, too, wanted personal answers to "why?" Each new
revelation brought me an inner peace I can only describe as the words of
Jesus, "My peace I give unto you". I thanked God for that peace, even though
I didn't understand it.
Years later, after continuous contemplations, it suddenly dawned on
me. It 'clicked'. The understanding that "I (Gail) and the Father are one
and the same" rolled over me like a huge wave and the light of Truth was so
bright I wondered why I hadn't been given that understanding before.
I've related that 'click' before in the comparison to learning
multiplication as a child. One day it just 'clicks' why 2 x 3 = 6 (example).
After then, we don't have to keep studying that particular section of the
math book.
Why do you study? That's a question only you can answer. The answer
comes with contemplation. With contemplation comes understanding.
