If we are mulit-dimensional beings now what happens in Ascension?

If we exist now in many dimensions, then presumably there is already a 5D me. If this is so, then what happens during ascension when the 3d me moves to 5d. Will there be a merging, a duality, a replacement? I get confused with the ascension process on this level. I believe we are multi-dimensional now. Any thoughts?
