Prevention and Avoidance
.
Recently, I’ve come to understand that most of us
reside in a cloud of doubts and fears that adversely
affect the way we lead our daily lives. Not necessarily
the kind of fears that makes your heart skip a beat,
but the more subtle fears we’ve all grown
accustomed to~ The kind of fear that leads to a life
of prevention and avoidance rather than progression.
Every time we make a mistake we do one of two things,
learn from the mistake or add to fear and doubt~
As we go through life, we erect barriers
to prevent future sorrow based on non desirable
experiences in our past~
Early on, we are trained to adjust behaviors to
avoid punishment, to fear the consequences of our
actions in almost everything we do~ We are taught
to avoid the undesirable and end up robbing ourselves
of opportunities and the richness of experiences
presented based on fear of loss, fear of failure,
fear of re-experiencing the unpleasant~
Many of us end up spending most of our time
avoiding the unpleasant rather than pursuing life’s joys~
Our fears become our expectations~ Our focus on
what we don’t want rather than what we want~
Undesirable aspects of past relationships become
the base for fear and avoidance in future relationships.
At times creating inaccurate perceptions of the people
and circumstances in which we are involved~
We must bring these truths into conscious awareness.
Understand that the future need not resemble the past.
Recalibrate our thought processes to seek and embrace
Life’s joys rather than avoiding life’s sorrows~
Understand that those things we see as undesirable
are meant to teach us, not to punish us~
Doubts and fears are really all that stand between us
and experiencing our deepest desires~
TRUST that the Universe is and always has acted
in our own best interest~ The more we trust the less
we fear~ This is a time for taking chances and
greeting new opportunities. Not for allowing fear
based barriers to hinder travel upon the new roads
being established for us~
Try to be more conscious of the role prevention
and avoidance plays in your everyday decision
making~ You’ll be surprised~
I know I was~
Food for thought…
