Semantics
~Semantics~
.
Words are merely vessels~
Vessels that carry meanings~
And when combined may express or
represent concepts and ideas that relay information
and define perceivable reality~
There are many words in the English language
that remain unclearly defined in the context of
normal conversation. And, a great many who,
quite literally, don’t know what they’re talking about.
When someone speaks of reality, what specifically
are they referring to? Is to know to possess
knowledge or certainty? Is freedom a lifestyle, a
state of mind, or are there even deeper meanings
of the term?
The words; truth, freedom, wisdom, reality, virtue,
and love can each be used to represent more than
one thing, variations of the same thing
or the end result of a combination of things.
Unfortunately, each of these terms are largely
accepted as having a single generalized meaning
if not made obvious by context. How can one
identify or place value on what one does not fully
understand?
Our minds are as highly sophisticated biological
computers. To give a computer insufficient or
incorrect information is to fall short of
accomplishing your objectives. To complicate
matters, there are a number of sayings that
reinforce bad advice or faulty information.
“All’s fair in love and war”
“Nice guys finish last”
“If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em”
“No good deed goes unpunished”
“It’s a woman’s prerogative to change her mind”
“Business is business”
“Try not to take it wrong”
“Better them than me”
These and other phrases were designed to excuse
poor conduct, bad behavior or to justify the
exploitation of others.
No good can come from their adaptation~
I’m not suggesting the English language should be
abandoned, rather that greater care should be taken
in the teaching of it. Where variations of the
meanings of terms remain unclearly defined,
so too are we depriving our own understanding.
Where truth is confounded by lies, inaccuracies,
or the adoration of foolish notions,
truth shall be withdrawn.
Inaccuracy in speech adds to confusion
and leads to misunderstandings~
Do what you say and say what you mean~
Because one thing leads to another…
