Open Affection

for too many of us~

In a recent bulletin I told a story about
a little girl who made me realize
how uptight most of us really are~
And for the purposed of this bulletin
I would like to tell it again~

I few months ago I went to my daughter’s
new friend’s house to pick her up for lunch.
I didn’t know the family and when I arrived
there were three children of different ages
with their mother watching over them.

The second oldest was an angel faced little
girl, about two, with blonde hair and a smile that
lit up the room. She seemed to have a particular
interest in me while I was there.

When it came time to go, the child looked at me
and said, “Huggie” and held open her arms.
It was all I could do but stand there petrified
at the thought of hugging this unfamiliar but
beautiful child in the presence of her Mother
and older sister who I’d just met.

Without apprehension, the child expressed
a pure and simple desire for affection~
To be held~
To be loved~
Yet my first reaction was not one of love but to fear
the consequences of fulfilling this pure and innocent
desire~

I believe it is more difficult for a man to express and
fulfill such needs as we are all taught from an early
age not to trust strangers. Particularly men.
“Strange Men” are often met with suspicion,
regardless of intent~

And as we grow, we’ve learned to repress our own
desire for affection. The desire to love and be loved
is henceforth met with caution and apprehension.

Most of us aren’t lucky enough to be raised in a
loving home. And our need for affection is never
outgrown~
It is only denied and suppressed~

Everyone is so afraid, uptight, cynical, suspicious,
and inhibited
that we've traded what we all need to feel good,
the part of love that matters most in
the physical realm,
for fear~

Why did we come here?
If it was to connect with God we've wasted a trip,
we were that before we left~

It was to learn and experience in the physical form~
Love most of all~
Not only to experience it,
but to allow it to evolve~

I think that if more of the World leaders and
terrorist groups had hugs every day they might not
be such grouchy bears~

It’s about a simple touch~
It’s about wanting to share your time and yourself
with people you care about~
It’s about trust and being secure enough with
yourself not to see loved ones as possessions
but as free Spirits~

It isn’t just about our heart connection
with Our Source. It’s also about our heart
connections with each other~

As we are separated from each other so to are we
separated from God~

When we remember how to love ourselves and each
other like children who haven’t learned any better,
then we will be ready to spread this love throughout
the rest of humanity~

If you think there’s room for more affection
in your life,
If you think you’ve denied yourself or been denied
the one thing everyone needs
to feel good about themselves,
then let the people in your life know how you feel~
Or
If you don’t like where you’re at…
then go somewhere else~

~We all have the right to be happy~

~We all have the right to feel loved~
