Introductory Comments on My 11-Year Recurring Dream: Transpersonal Lessons in Philosophy of Science
A version of this essay was presented at the 22nd Annual Meeting of the International Association for the Study of Dreams, held at the Berkeley Marina, Berkeley, California, in late June 2005. Conference recording service made a CD of this talk and if someone here knows how to put audio on this site, I'll post that talk--which contains a Sufi story that relates to this dream and some references to the work of physicist/philosopher David Bohm. I'll be posting some of my work on Bohm at another time. This essay dovetails at some points with my essay on "A Personal Encounter with Paranormal Dreaming." Both of these essays will I hope eventually become book chapters with several other essays that go into the history of transpersonal psychology. I'll post some of my work on transpersonal psychology at another time. Again, www.conferencerecording.com also has several talks I have given on CD, as well as two on DVD. It feels sort of weird for me to be talking about this as sometimes I'm so engaged with my own process of inquiry I forget that I'm actually creating a body of work in various kinds of media. Plus I'm so anti-authority and anti-establishment that when I reflect on my own work I realize that as I continue to publish (becoming an authority) I'll eventually have to rebell against myself!
