Ego and How to Get Rid of it

With a big sigh i accept that the topic of "EGO and how to get rid of it" is pushing itself into my face. I've shied away from this topic, i didn't want to start controversy. Well in the hope that some of the readers of this blog actually get it and start seeing for themselves, i'm going to step over the threshold and voice what has been inside my heart for a while now - do check for yourselves if it applies to your life - or if you're convinced it is not true, then perhaps give it the benefit of the doubt before throwing the concept over board.

I read many blogs here at Lightworkers and the most blatant thing that throws itself into my line of sight is ... yes... EGO.
No matter how hard we try, we can't really get rid of it. I mean, we have worked our butts off clearing past karma, resolving behavioral patterns and cleansed ourselves of many things. .... successfully! ... yet, the ego prevails, rears its ugly head, takes on a dominant role, or comes sneaking around the corner, when we just really think "now i've gotten it, now i've shelved the ego, now i've gotten rid of it !...."

Truth is - you can't get rid of the ego ! ... You're not supposed to get rid of it ! wow, a novel concept perhaps ? - The ego rears its head every time it's being pushed away, every time it has been sent into exile - every time it has been devaluated, the polarity on this plane WILL work - it always does ! - and the ego will show up again, in the most inopportune fashion, at the worst possible moment - and - with renewed strength (well actually, with the strength needed to match the one you used to push the ego away). Such is the way here in this reality. There is nothing one can do about this function of things balancing themselves out. Take other things in your life which you don't have such issues with and see that indeed, the more i push on something, the more it'll push back, the pendulum WILL react. Well, if you have observed this in other areas of your life, all around you, in your friends and family (oh it's really visible there, isn't it?) then WHY on earth are you refusing that this natural law of "action and reaction are equal and opposite" applies to something we come with? ... the EGO?

It is not logical to assume that the ego will go away. Your blue, black, brown, green eyes don't go away, your personality doesn't go away, your soul doesn't go away - why on earth would the ego need to go away? It does NOT need to go away and it will not go away - i see it every day, all of us, yes including myself, have healthy, functioning egos, fighting for their place, because there is a war against ego going on - based on total ignorance of the subject at hand.

Now if we come to at least accept for one moment, that "OK, the ego is here to stay, it's part of who i am" - then what is it's function, because it seems to keep us from being "holy" or some such. I see the function of a healthy ego that it helps us navigate through this reality, through the physical world. It does help with balancing a checkbook or the likes. It has its place. It helps us stay here in the physical world and even if it feels like the big bad enemy, it is not. It certainly likes its share of attention, it wants to be the motivator for many decisions, the key here would be to KNOW who your ego is - know it and chuckle - know it and apply humor in a good sense - know it and you will know when it is going overboard - then it's time to reign it in a little - bring it to balance. This point of balance is different for each and every individual. I am not here to tell you what exercises to do, how to find this balance, but I can assure you from my own life experience, that if you become more compassionate with your ego you step onto the path to self-love (not self-aggrandizement, that's what the ego wants to do). As long as there is one iota of me which i am trying to get rid of, i cannot claim to master self-love and if i do not master self-love, i cannot claim to truly love another and if i do not master self-love, the creator cannot learn and heal.
