Question???

I have a question that I'm hoping someone can shed some light on for me. As a child and up until my awakening I use to experience the strangest occurrence. I will try to explain what it is was, I have always had a hard time articulating it. But even when I have no one ever had any clue what it was that was happening to me. So if anyone has any input on this I would really appreciate it. Ok here is what would happen.
This would always happen when I was awake, although I do remember a few times awaking during the night in being in the throes of this. Visually everything around me would feel far away and look far away, sometimes I would feel too large for my body and sometimes I would feel very small especially when things would look large but yet far away from me. If I awoke in the night to this even though I couldn't see, I could feel that I was in this state whatever it was. Sometimes this would last for as much as an hour and occasionally longer.
As a child trying to explain this to my parents I would just get that look from them like I was exaggerating or making it up, so after awhile I just stopped telling people about it. As I grew older it happened less and less and since my awakening to truth about 10yrs ago I have never experienced it again. I don't know why it feels important to me now to understand what it was that was going on but I do. Maybe it's just because it was something that was with me for 40 some years and I never had an explanation for it. I really hope someone can answer this question for me and thank you if you can.
