(Note: this info is unedited, and might seem a little long. feel free to simply skim over it and read closely only the parts that interest you. i didn't want to edit the material so i am typing it as-is and trusting that those who find value in it will not mind having a lengthy body of work to look through, though the 'length' is only 3 and 1/2 paperback-sized pages. enjoy!)
A curious fact I would like to draw your attention to at this time is that many higher spirits who are working with several people at the same time use a different name when working with each individual channel. The reason for this is interesting. In this day and age of the information superhighway, people who channel cross paths much more often than they would have even a decade ago. Spirits have found that when Channels who are working with the same spirits cross paths, the result can be very uncomfortable for the people who Channel that spirit. Many Channels find themselves feeling threatened by others who claim contact with the spirit they work with, even if that contact is real.
This is due to the nature of the relationship each Channel has with the spirit she Channels. Little is more intimate than opening up your psyche and sharing your mind and body with another personality. Even if the Channel does not realize it, her relationship with her spirit partner is often as personal and deep as a marriage or love affair. So, when someone comes up to a person and tells them, "I Channel the same person you do," the ears may hear those simple words, but the heart hears something equivalent to, "I am having an affair with your spouse". The emotions react in turn. Responses can range from denial, to hurt, to rage. It is difficult for the human ego to believe that someone else could be sharing in something or someone you see so dear.
Sadly, many times, people who Channel are lulled into believing that the messages they get from their spirit partner are exclusively their own to do with as they wish. They come to believe that they will make a fortune by selling the information they obtain from a spirit. If they are at all successful in this, they will see anyone who comes to them claiming information from the same source as an interloper trying to take money from their pockets. For this reason, and for others that are rooted in an insecure ego, it is not uncommon for people to file for copyrights on a spirit's name. By doing so, they are reinforcing their desire that they are the only one in all existence worthy of contact with a particular spirit. This is the pinnacle of both self-centered conceit and insecurity. Nevertheless, we in spirit understand why this is done. Though there are some who have worked a spirit's name into a virtual empire, the desire to have a "brand name" is only a small part of it. If the truth were clear, you would see that when a person makes statements like, "I was told I am the only one who will ever Channel so and so," they are really saying, "I am insecure about myself and my spirit guide has comforted me." If they say, "You can't Channel so and so because I own the copyright to him." They are really saying to their inner insecure emotional self, "I have a marriage license to prove I'm the only one he loves."
Marriage license? I hear you wonder with surprise. Yes, marriage license. Reflect for a moment on the deep emotional link most Channels have with the spirits they host. With this in mind, consider that by copyrighting the name of their spirit contact then in fact have executed a pseudo-marriage license; a legal document that binds the two exclusively together.
To go to these ends demonstrates how strong the need is for some who Channel to feel exclusively identified with the particular spirit they work with. If it were known to them that they are only one of several who work with the same being, it would be hard on their psyche, perhaps even devastating.
As for the copyrighting of information, it is understood by those on the other side that one can, for many reasons, choose to copyright and even sell the words said by a Channel or the spirit who is Channeled. It is also understood that Channels who expend money and resources to present their message to the world are entitled to compensation. This is without a doubt. It is part of what you need in order to give these messages to the masses and still make ends meet. None of the spirits of my association have any problem with establishing the ownership of the words used to convey a Channeled message. What words are used and how they are presented, orally, in print, via the internet, whatever way the Channel sees fit, are the property of the Channel. But the information itself, the truths that those words form, is incapable of being exclusively possessed. How can anyone expect to own or sell the pure truth? As a Channel, you will indeed own the words you Channel, and you may do with those words as you wish. But the truths that you Channel, and the concepts behind those words are not yours. They are not ours [meaning those beings in the realm of spirit]. They are no one's and everyone's at the same time. Understand this now and you will be much happier later. The person who believes they are the only one who Channels the truth, and that truth belongs exclusively to them is pitiful indeed. For they have missed one of the most important lessons about Channeling.
Even if all understood that they do not own the truth of the messages given to them, only the words used to give it, it is clear that because of the emotional issues involved, when people who Channel the same being by the same name meet, there will most likely be conflict. Who is more clear? Who owns the truth? Who is the preferred? Who filed the marriage license first?
It is painful for spirits, guides and contacts to see our human counterparts suffer because of something as trivial as a name. This is why few spirits who work with more than one human will use the same name with each Channel. It also avoids arguments between Channels when they Channel information that seems to conflict. This can and does happen from time to time. Not because the spirit is giving different information to different people, but because of the type and level of Channeling each host is doing and what filtering her personal opinion puts on the information presented.
