The Day I was Graced with HAWK Medicine...

Namaste Great beings of light,

I experienced an amazing day yesterday, which flowed into today, and this story I wanted to share with you.

Yesterday (10 Sept), my sister and I travelled an hour North to visit with my 84 year old grandmother. Because we have 5 children between us, we needed to take 2 cars. So I followed her. We were cascading around the beautiful green rolling hills of the North East of Tasmania, I just love that countryside. For the first 15kms, we were trailing behind a slow small truck, I was very patient, however i could just imagine my sister... so at a perfect opportunity, when there was a beauiful straight, my sister overtook the truck, then i checked that the path was clear, and I also overtook it... however just as i was passing the truck, a car pulled out of a side street into my lane... I panicked a little, but casually made it onto the safe side of the road!!

Then just around the corner, at the bottom of the hill, i saw something in the middle of the road, it was road kill, and as i got closer i saw one wing waving in the air to me... as i passed, i saw it was a big hawk which had been killed by a motor vehicle!! I wanted to pull over, but there was no opportunity... I told the kids that if it is still there when we come back through that we will stop...

My sister and I got to our grandmothers house, and we were both quite excited about it. She knows that i love shamanic stuff and that i really pay attention to eagles, hawks etc flying by...

a few hours later, we trecked back down that same road. I told the kids that we would ask hawk if she would share some of her feathers with us.... they said, 'but how do you know what she says?' i told them that i have said to hawk that if you are still there and waving to us then we can pull over and see what happens... we found a safe space to pull over in the car, and the hawk was still there. waving like hours before. there were large brown and white feathers everywhere, so we collected some. the kids were very excited.

I went over to hawk, laying on the road, and pulled her over to the grass. here i noticed she was the biggest hawk i had ever seen. we have lots of small ones around home, but this one was the size of a wedgetailed eagle, which we have a lot of here... i asked hawk if she would share a part of her wing with me for my healing and energy work... and she agreed. as long as i shared some of her feathers with my shamanic group (incidently, i cancelled Tues night group for the first time in over a year, so i could go and visit my nan!!) and also hawk wanted me to respect her wing and use it sacredly. which i certainly agreed to. i was able to take just the 'fingers' or end of the wing, and it is huge. i reckon one wing span was as long as my arm... it would have been over 2 meters with wings spread!! Just beautiful.

I felt that i was led there, and that she sacrificed her life for me.

We drove back to my mothers (where i was staying for a couple of days) on a high. just loving what we just experienced.

I later read in my 'animal speak' book (by Ted Andrews) that Hawk is very special. i have worked with my power animal or animal totem hawk for a lot of years, and have a small wing from one that was hit by a car a few years ago. However I feel that hawk is strongly around me right now.

According to animal speak and what resonated with me as i connected with it, is that hawk is a messenger and protector. hawk teaches us to fly to great heights whilst keeping our feet planted to the ground. I feel a great sacredness with hawk right now.

This morning there was a kids cartoon on tv, which i happened to watch and it was all about hawk. also, On the way home today, after leaving my mothers, and leaving town to drive 2 hours to my home... my kids and i counted over 10 hawks which were farewelling us from Launceston. we also saw 2 eagles and many other beautiful birds.

I feel so blessed that i was given such a beautiful gift this week. my heart is filled with honour as i respect and honour hawk in every way.
