Here is one of the many lessons I love written about in Lynn A. Robinsons’ book, Divine Intuition. I’ll share it with you

The Yearnings Of Your Soul

“I’VE LEARNED THAT ONE WAY TO

BRING MY BREATEST LONGINGS TO

THE SURFACE IS TO NOTICE HOW

ALIVE THEY MAKE ME FEEL.”

-Mary Manin Morrissey

Babies come into this life knowing what

it is they are supposed to do. They are

very connected to what brings joy and makes

them happy. As they grow older, children

begin to bow to external influences, and

allow themselves to be talked out of what

they love.

MANY OF MY CLIENTS DO THE SAME THING. THEY PUT ASIDE THEIR YEARNIGNS. They do what is expected of the, like taking the first job that is offered out of college, and it defines not just their careers, but their whole life. They seem to be afraid that nothing else will show up if they take a chance on their dreams

Some of the toughest questions I am asked are by people who have put aside their true dreams and aspirations. They feel depressed, enervated, and lacking direction they ask, “Why am I going through this?” “What am I doing wrong?” or “What can I do to get out of it?” I know that I am expected to come up with some easy answer. “Don’t worry, your prince charming is just around the corner.” Or “Just go to this alternative physician and she’ll fix you right up!”

However, I think the answer to these ”dark nights of the soul” is much more complex. You awaken to who you really are through a process of being in relationship with others, building your careers, making choices, raising your children, and dealing with your parents. This is how you learn the lessons you are here to learn. Through a bout with cancer you may have grown in courage. Through dealing with a critically ill parent you may have learned compassion. Through being born with a disability you may have learned persistence.  Through going through a difficult divorce you may have learned about forgiveness. As you co-create with God to bring your dream to fruition, you willingly step into the unknown you expand your view of yourself as you fulfill your potential and ultimately grow into a great, more compassionate and loving human being.

“ARE YOU BORED WITH LIFE? THEN

THROW YOURSELF INTO SOME WORK

YOU BELIEVE IN WITH ALL YOUR HEART,

LIVE FOR IT, DIE FOR IT, AND YOU WILL

FIND HAPPINESS THAT YOU HAD THOUGHT

COULD NEVER BE YOURS.”

-Dale Carnegie

Follow Your Intuitive Yearnings

When you were a child you probably had a much clearer idea about what made you happy. You were willing to try new things and take risks without too much thought. As you got older you probably felt a lot of restrictions. You might have been told that being an accountant was better than being an actress. Your parents may have told you they would pay for your business degree but not art school.

As an adult you may have gained a practical understanding about those requests. If you heard suggestions like those and heeded them, you probably ended up feeling very out of touch with your true calling. You may have made a practice of overriding your inner messages in search of more pragmatic visions

What did you want to be when you were a kid? In my neighborhood I was the oldest girl. We lived on a dead end street with a deep forest on one end and fields on either side. I would spend hours with the younger kids playing a game I called “Fairies and Angels.” I had an amazing fantasy life, and I would create elaborate stories about angels and fairies helping us out of our imaginary predicaments. We would be in the woods pretending we were in enemy territory and unable to escape. I would whisper, “What do the angels and fairies have to say?” of course, being the big kid on the block, I never really let any of the others receive messages. I would hear the angel message and off we would go on a new mission! That is how I spent my childhood. Is it any wonder I ended up becoming a psychic and helping people solve their predicaments through my inner guidance? My whole childhood primed me for this!

Recognizing and following your intuitive yearnings to find your true calling is not an easy process. Following you inner path can be quite challenging and demand a great deal of courage. You can imagine that I did not make an easy transition from a kid who likes to play “angels and fairies” to a life as a successful psychic and writer.

James Allen wrote, “Dream lofty dreams, and as you dream, so shall you become. Your vision is the promise of what you shall one day be; your ideal is the prophecy of what you shall at last unveil.” It is a little frightening to pay attention to the yearning of your soul and dream big dreams. What if you fail? What then? Have you had a fantasy about something you wanted to create? Have you put your goals on hold? Let’s work at putting those dreams on the front burner again.

“AH, BUT A MAN’S REACH SHOULD

EXCEED HIS GRASP, OR WHAT’S A

HEAVEN FOR?”

-Robert Browning

Expand Your Comfort Zone

If you can create your dream by yourself, your dream is probably not big enough. Your inner wisdom is your guide who is there to assist you. Your greatest dreams require that you learn to practice new thinking and expand your comfort zone. Oscar Hammerstein said it well, “A dream cannot come true unless you dream that dream.” As you begin to commit to achieving the hopes and dreams on your list (see the end of this statement), inner messages will pop into your mind to give you inspiration and wise directions. Paying attention is the key to this guidance. It is always there. If you navigate by the map of your intuition, miracles can happen in your life. The directions for how to achieve this yearning of your soul will begin to appear.

When you start taking small steps towards your dream, you enter a new place, a new paradigm, and begin to see possibilities and solutions that did not seem to be there before. A new world opens up. Thoreau said, “If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, we will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.”

On your way to creating your new life, you are required to grow and change and to let go of what no longer serves you. Sometimes this is a hard process and one that touches many of your deepest fears. Have courage. Know that you create what you want through a series of ups and downs. When you are in a down cycle, know that you will come up again.

“BEFORE YOU CAN DO SOMETHING THAT

YOU’VE NEVER DONE BEFORE, YOU HAVE TO

BE ABLE TO IMAGINE IT’S POSSIBLE.”

-Jean Shinoda Bolen

Contribute Your Gifts

When I give readings, I often receive information in symbolic images. One of the more common ones is a representation of a big puzzle with a piece missing. When I see that picture in my mind’s eye, I know that my client is not doing what he or she is here to do. Each of us brings to this world our own unique gifts, talents, and abilities. We each have a piece of the puzzle that we are here to share with others. If we cast aside our inner guidance that continually informs us of our mission and purpose in life, we are not contributing our gifts. Your uniqueness that makes you who you are. The puzzle will not be whole without the piece you have to offer.

Exorcise:

Making Your Dreams Come True

1)      The first step in creating anything new is to be clear about what you want. Make a list of several of your biggest hopes and dreams. This is not the place to worry about practicality or to concern yourself with how in the world to achieve your goals. Think about what you want to create in the areas of love, relationships, health, education, children, free time, hobbies, or travel. Just write whatever comes to mind.

2)      For the purpose of this exercise, I’d like you to choose the top three from your list. These are the ones you are most committed to achieving right now. Write them down again.

3)      Close your eyes, take a deep breath and relax. Imagine that you have a Wise Being who is your guide for this exercise and he or she is sitting in front of you. Ask your Wise Being what you can do to begin to create these hopes and dreams in your life. Listen carefully. You may get information about some steps you should begin to take or a new way of thinking about your life. As always, the answers will come in a variety of forms.

4)      Open your eyes. What information did you receive from your Wise Being? Write it down.

If you really believed these goals were possible to achieve, what would you do? As always, small steps are as important as large ones. Write your actions down.
