Here is one of the many lessons I love written about in Lynn A. Robinsons’ book, Divine Intuition. I’ll share it with you

Choosing “God Thoughts”

“LET A MAN RADICALLY ALTER HIS

THOUGHTS AND HE WILL BE

ASTONISHED AT THE RAPID

TRANSFORMATION IT WILL EFFECT

IN THE MATERIAL CONDITIONS OF

HIS  LIFE.”

-James Allen

You know from reading the book so far that

the power of your mind to imagine success

is a key to creating a life you love. I practice

watching and listening to my thoughts because

I know that my attitude makes a difference

in my life. “Thoughts held in mind produce

after their kind,” is a saying familiar to many

Unity Church members.

HAVE YOU GOTTEN UP ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE BED? Your day started off bad and got worse. Have you ever stopped yourself on one of those awful mornings and listened to what you were telling yourself? Here is what my thoughts sounded like on one of those mornings last week: “I can’t write. I’ll never finish this book. I might as well give it up. My friend Cheryl can write, but I can’t. Nothing is working out. What if the publisher doesn’t like my book? What if the editor rips it to shreds.” You get the idea. (Grumble. Grumble. Grumble. Bah humbug.) That was not the beginning of a good day.

Hhave discovered that if I let myself go in this frame of mind for too long I might as well pack it in for the day. When I am in that state it is as if I am digging myself into a big pit. If I can break this pattern of thinking after a few minutes I can usually get myself out. If I continue shoveling the negative thoughts for a few hours, well, only a good night’s sleep is going to get me out of that pit.

Thoughts are alive. They have energy. What you spend time thinking about becomes your habitual experience as you go about your life. The philosopher Soren Kierkegard wrote, “Our life always expresses the result of our dominant thoughts.” If your thoughts are filled with doubt, fear, anger, or any other negative emotions, that is what you are giving your attention to and thus what you are creating in your experience.

“A PARALYZED MAN WAS TELLING

AN INTERVIEWER THAT HE HAD

TRAINEDTO BE A WORLD-CLASS

ATHLETE BEFORE HIS ACCIDENT. THE

INTERVIEWER ASKEDHIM IF HIS HANDICAP

HASN’T COLORED HIS LIFE. ‘YES,’ CAME

THE QUICK ANSWER, ‘BUT I’VE CHOSENT

THE COLORS’.”

-Gloria Karpinsky

Is There Another Way?

Try this next time you find yourself in the beginning of a bad mood. Take a few minutes to sit quietly. Take a deep breath and imagine you are filled with and surrounded by God’s love. Bring to mind the issue that is upsetting you and ask simply, “Is there another way of viewing this situation that will make me feel better?” Open your heart and your mind and await the answer. Often the mere fact that you have asked the question will bring about the shift in consciousness that you need.

Each morning I wake up and I think about what I have ahead of me for the day. I imagine everything running smoothly and see myself achieving my goals, being calm, happy, and focused. I envision a healing light around me and all around the people and situations with whom I come in contact. I silently ask for inner guidance to be available to me throughout the day as I go about my tasks. I ask for help in remembering to tap into this wisdom whenever I feel confused, tired or drained by something or someone. Your inner guidance is available in every moment throughout the day.

“MUCH SO-CALLED ‘POSITIVE THINKING’

IS LITTLE MORE THAN WISHFUL THINKING,

VOICING A LOT OF POLLYANNA WORDS

THAT YOU REALLY DON’T BELIEVE. IT IS A

MATTER OF SYNCHORNIZING YOU SELF

IN MIND WITH THE FLOW OF THE INFINITE.

THE IDEAL, OF COURSE, IS TO THINK THE

KIND OF THOUGHTSTHAT LEAD TO THE

KIND OF CONDITIONS THAT YOU WANT

TO SEE MANIFEST IN YOUR LIFE.”

-Eric Butterworth

Life Choices

I realize I can choose to be in a good mood or I can choose to be in a bad one. Each time something negative or difficult happens, I can choose to be a victim or I can choose to learn from it. Life is all about choices. When you cut away everything else, each situation is a choice. You choose how you react to situations. You choose how people will affect your mood. When you find yourself slipping into a negative state of mind, learn to catch yourself and recognize you have a choice about how you perceive a person or a situation.

A Course in Miracles has a very simple, yet powerful statement: “I could choose peace instead of this.” I often use this as an affirmative mantra to remind myself that the negative thoughts that are swirling through my head are my own creation. They are not God thoughts. In using this affirmation I silently ask God to help me change my thinking to thoughts that are more loving, hopeful, and absent of judgments. Use whatever prayer, mantra, or visualization that reconnects you with your inner self. Sometimes it takes just a moment of paying conscious attention and then I can begin to focus on how I want to feel and what I want to create in my life.

Mary Manin Morrissey reminds us to “Set a positive intention for a ’God thought.’ When you’re stuck in a traffic jam, when the children bicker, or your partner seems uncaring, what happens to your thoughts? In times of frustration and discouragement, our thoughts may sometimes turn to self-pity. Stick to your intention by remembering God in your thinking. Remember, nobody can rob you of a wonderful life without your consent.”

Crises and catastrophes will continue to occur. Your relationship with God is a resource that can help you survive misfortune. Out of the suffering you experience, what choices have you make? Every difficulty you face presents you with an opportunity to decide how to respond. Your source of guidance, through your intuition, can help you become aware of more choices and resources for healing.

I believe that God’s plan is for us to continue to choose love, forgiveness, and compassion in any and all situations we face. When you learn to consciously choose to take your mind off fear, victimization, and condemnation and put it on love, hope, and optimism, you are at the start of an extraordinary transformation. You are here to learn to love and be loved, and many of your lesions in life will assist you in making the right choices.

When you are faced with a situation that feels overwhelming, you can easily be consumed with thoughts of hopelessness and desperation. You do not know what to do. You cannot imagine feeling good again. You do not see a way to feel in control and you feel depressed and paralyzed. At times like these, remember that your inner guidance is connected to a greater source of wisdom. Your connection to God through intuition can provide you with new ways of thinking, resources to help you, and inspiration to direct you.  Prayer is the way to speak with God Ask for a transformation of your thoughts and feelings and you will e surprised at all the opportunities that open up before you.

“… WHATSOEVER THINGS ARE TRUE…

HONEST… JUST… PURE… LOVELY…

THINK ON THESE THINGS.”

-Philippians 4:8

The Presence of God

Wayne Dyer offers this way of approaching prayer: “I center myself and empty my mind and begin to feel the love that is there when I quiet down enough to feel. As I do this I transcend time and space, and I am in the very presence of God.” The next time you are searching for a way to resolve a painful situation try his approach: reach for a “God Thought” whenever you are facing tough times. You will begin to do it automatically in everyday situations, and you will be on the path to discover a more peaceful, abundant, and contented life.

“WE ARE CO-CREATORS WITH GOD,

NOT PUPPETS ON A STRING WAITING

FOR SOMETHING TO HAPPEN.”

-Father Leo Booth

Exorcise:

How Can I Find Peace?

Try this the next time you find yourself in an upsetting circumstance:

1)      Sit quietly and focus on your breathing for a few moments or use any other technique that allows your to quiet your mind.

2)      Bring to mind the situation you find upsetting

3)      Acknowledge to yourself tat your goal is to experience peace and calm about this situation. Your task is to find a loving and compassionate approach to the resolution of the conflict you are experiencing.

4)      Imagine being filled and surrounded by a healing light or energy. Ask God to be present in whatever form feels right to you. Stay with this thought and image for a few moments.

5)      Ask the question, “How can I find peace in this situation?” Then rest quietly, trust, and listen. If your mind drifts to other things, simply repeat the question, “How can I find peace in this situation?” And listen again. Through prayerful listening, the answer will unfold.

6)      The next step is to ask, “Is there any action I need to take right now regarding this situation?” listen and repeat, if necessary, as in step 5.

7)      Understand that you may not always receive an answer immediately. If you are feelings upset and unsettled by the situation you are praying about, your mind may not e calm enough for God’s response to come through effectively. Trust that the answer will emerge over the next day. It may come in a dream a shift in perception about your problem a conversation with a friend, or something you are drawn to read. Or the answer may simply come fully formed.
