Thirteen Moon Calendar

To give people some more information to work with on the Mayan calendar, this blog post introduces the sacred 13 moon calendar. Those interested in finding out more can contact me directly or use this helpful tool: http://thetwelve.com/mayan-calendar (originally hosted by http://bio-plasmics.org).

The sacred 13 moon calendar has been in use for over 5000 years as a reflection of perfect harmony, primordially followed by virtually all human cultures on this planet. The Lakota kept a 13 moon 'keya' or turtle since the turtle has 13 scales on his back. The Incan, Druids, Essene, Mayan, Polynesian, Egyptian, Chinese and several Native American tribes all used a 13 month, 28-day calendar, and many are still using it today. As an instrument of planetary peace this 13 moon calendar is based on the Dreamspell, and uses as its totems (guardians) the animals from the Mayan Zodiac. The essence of each of these spirits most closely resonates with the theme and feel of each of the 13 moons we all pass through each year on this planet as we journey around our Sun.

The uppermost point of the great circle corresponds to July 26th on the Gregorian calendar. This point is chosen as the starting point of each year of the Dreamspell calendar and the 13 moon calendar. At this time each year the brightest fixed star in our heavens, Sirius, rises in conjunction with our Sun. Long held by the ancients to be the dispenser of spiritual guidance and nurturance, it is a fitting symbol for the new year energies.

The 13 Moons each have a Totem animal--as well as a tone and distinct meditations, questions and objectives pertaining to its time frame. These are listed below:

Moon 1-Magnetic Moon- Bat (What is my Purpose?)
Moon 2-Lunar Moon-Scorpion (What is my Challenge?)
Moon 3-Electric Moon-Deer (How can I best serve?)
Moon 4-Self Existing Moon- Owl (What is the form of the action?)
Moon 5-Overtone Moon- Peacock (How can I best empower myself?)
Moon 6-Rythmic Moon- Lizard (How can I organize for Equality?)
Moon 7-Resonant Moon - Monkey (How Can I attune my service to others?)
Moon 8-Galactic Moon- Hawk (Do I live what I belive?)
Moon 9-Solar Moon-Jaguar (How do I attain my purpose?)
Moon 10-Planetary Moon- Dog (How do I perfect what I do?)
Moon 11-Spectral Moon- Serpent (How do I release and let go?)
Moon 12-Crystal Moon- Rabbit (How can I dedicate myself to all that lives?)
Moon 13-Cosmic Moon- Turtle (How can I increase my joy and love?)

The number 13 is one of the first keys to the codes of fourth-dimensional time and to the annual lunar cycles of which Earth is guided through the stars.

13 signifies the endlessly expansive spirit of the ascending spiral. This is one of the first steps in understanding the interconnectedness of all life and being present to the perfection of spirit that manifests through everything. We can realize that we are always inherently on time because we are time.
