A fallen Hero is still a hero!!...expecting too much from our Athletes!
Liu Xiang better known in his native China as " The Flying Man", is consider a hero there. It broke my heart when he couldn't make it to finals. Is this a lesson for him or for the chinese people, who held hight expextations on him.
All the pressure this young man has is beyond words. Yet Chinese people found in their heart, compassion and sorrow for this young athlete.
Why do we put so much energy onto somebody that is just as human as we are? why are we so fixated in creating heroes out of another human being? , why do we put all of our expectations in one person? why?
Is really heart breaking, it really is.. I am a mother and can feel his pain. I really do. The feeling of defeat, dissapointment. This all could of been avoided if they wouldn't made of him a Hero, a celebrity.
Same goes for Michael Phelps...I mean I like him as a swimmer, but let's face it.. how much can a man-made hero stand alone? how much pressure can they endure? Neither fame, or celebrity status will take away the fact that this kids are humans. Puting our faith and all our energy into them, only makes it worst when the HEROE, we created falls hard of his pedestal, shattering dreams, hopes and false expectations.
Foe me a fallen Hero is still a Hero.Liu is still a hero.
Namaste
