Animal Souls?

I was just reading Pebble's post about losing her Taz, and it reminded me of when my own dog was run over. This is probably gonna sound a bit strange, but I always had the idea that that dog, Dancer, was a reincarnation of another dog I had as a child.

Gary Zurkav says animals don't have individual souls, but are all part of one group soul that is dog...or horse, or whatever. So they are ensoulled, but not individually I guess. So does that mean that we don't know our animal friends on a soul level? Do we just engage with their personalities? And is it possible for a personality to come back into our timeline once they have left the 3D plane?

I'm probably going out on a weirdness limb here, but I have often felt Aja, a cat who died of snake bite, walking on the bed, and curling in her usual spot against me. If they can come visit us in spirit, can they also visit us in the physical body...dog reincarnation...hmmm...I hope that's not offending anyone.
