Allowing Your Creativity to come into Full Expression

Creativity is far more vital than most people suspect. To create is to bring something new into expression. Consider this: The only alternative is to repeat the old! It’s important to realize that creativity applies to everything without exception. It can embrace everything in your life, from the most mundane to the most sublime. Whether you’re creating a better way to mop the floor, a new work of art, music or literature, a new invention, a new idea in science, a new realization about life or Reality, a new attainment in spiritual endeavor, or a new depth of spiritual surrender, if it is new, it is the result of creativity.

It’s well known that creativity involves advanced use of sexual energy. So we can no longer allow sexuality to remain misunderstood and troublesome. The key to the full expression of your creativity is to allow your sexuality to balance back into its natural wholeness. The union of a man and a woman that can give birth to babies is symbolic of the balance of masculinity and femininity within an individual that can give rise to creativity. This balance would be natural for all of us if we had not been damaged by atrocious cultural pathologies. The purpose of this essay is to heal that damage. While the damage is devastating, it’s easy to heal as you’ll soon see.

Masculinity and femininity constitute a natural polarity, similar to the positive and negative electrical polarity of batteries. The positive pole of a battery can't exist without the battery having a negative pole. Now, if you take a car battery and you cut off one of the two poles and cover it up and announce that it is a positive battery with nothing about it that's negative – well you know the whole idea is ridiculous. Trying to make a battery that’s totally positive just makes a battery that doesn’t work at all. Masculinity and femininity work in the same way. Creativity will be impaired to the extent that either the masculinity or the femininity of the individual has been disabled.

Masculinity is intentional initiation. Femininity is receptive nurturance. The process of creativity involves the intentional initiation of what’s being created along with the receptivity that can nurture it into full expression. Without masculinity, nothing would be initiated for femininity to nurture. But without femininity, nothing would get nurtured that masculinity would initiate. Both cases are like a battery with one pole sawed off and covered in order to present a pretense of being single-poled.

This can happen, for example, if parents try to make sure their son grows up to be a manly man. Only a viciously aggressive deceit could sustain such a fragile charade. But even if sawed off and covered up, the complementary pole of a battery is still there beneath the camouflage that would hide it, and will function anytime it would be revealed and accessed. The denial hides but does not destroy. Though the manly man, with his femininity covered up and denied and his personality expressing only masculine characteristics has his creativity disabled, his innate femininity remains behind his denial just as intact and functional as the sawed off battery pole.

Similarly, though the womanly woman, with her masculinity covered up and denied and her personality expressing only feminine characteristics has her creativity thereby disabled, her innate masculinity remains behind her denial, just as intact and functional as a battery with it's other pole sawed off and covered up.

The masculine characteristics of intention and initiative, and the feminine characteristics of receptivity and nurturance are inherently innate and balanced in every individual no matter how much one or the other has been denied and repressed. Everyone is just as innately both masculine and feminine just as batteries are innately both positive and negative. And hence everyone has maximum potential for creativity. All that's required is to let go of the denial and repression so that your natural wholeness can come back into full expression.
