good news/ a happy observation

I was in Brooklyn on Sunday night. I had a good view of Manhattan and was admiring the city lights as any country person will. I noticed something different this time. Although the lights are pretty I have always been somewhat nauseated at the amount of electricity being wasted with so many tall buildings with lights ablaze on every floor all night long. This time I noticed that maybe only 15% of the lights were left on. They were scattered pretty evenly so you could make out the shape of the building, and the tops were lit up. It was even more pretty, because you could tell from looking that someone, many someones, were thinking and cared enough to change how they do things. I want to describe how good that felt, all I can say is you can see the change coming in all these little ways. Look for it, and be joy!
