practical spirituality
There are times during this amazing awakening proces when I sorta resent having to be 'normal' most of the time. I'd love to be able to spend my life in meditation and contemplation and not have to worry about stuff like grocery shopping and scrubbing the bathroom. I hear lots of folks talking about living in joy and bliss, and that's great, but they must be alot further down their path than I am. I have my times of bliss and great joy, but mostly they come at the odd moment during the day. Like some sorta gift from Mother Earth. I haven't yet learned to hold onto that bliss continuiously. The rest of the time I have to function in a third dimensional world, through my third dimensional self .
Sometimes it's not easy to balance our multi-dimensional selves in third dimensional density, and we tend to find ourselves drawn into less than positive energies that may be surrounding us. Along my path I have noticed that there are little things I can do to remain as multi-demisional as possible, even when I'm acting purely third dimensionally.
There are practical ways to hold onto our spirituality in everyday circumstances. These simple methods help us keep vibrating at the highest possibly frequency, and protect us from being drawn into any negativity around us.
1. Language:
Watch what you say! Use positive words. Words that don't carry ugly energy along with them. Remember that once spoken, a word exists, it is a thing, and it has power. It has whatever power you give it. Words can be gifts...or words can be weapons. Be aware of what words you are using that carry negative energy.
Hate is one word I feel very strongly about. Folks toss this word around in everyday conversation...I don't understand that. They say stuff like "I hate carrots" or don'tcha 'hate to wait'. Ugh, that's gotta be one of the ugliest words in the language, and we toss it around as if it means nothing. Every time that word pops outta someone's mouth another little bit of negative energy is tossed into the communal energy of the planet. And, possibly, the energy of our words goes to actually strengthening hate itself.
Another thing to keep in mind is words you give to yourself. If you look in the mirror and aren't happy with what you see and you put your feelings into actual words, like do these pants make my bum look big?, then yeah, pretty good chance your bum will look big, cause you just created that through your own thoughts, and backed it up with the power of words.
It's also important to think about the words we use with those around us. Though we may not intend to hurt, ill spoken words are probably one of the greatest sources of hurt anywhere in Universe. Awareness of the fact that your spoken word carries power, and consciously making sure your words are, at the very least, harmless, you will keep your own vibrations high, and not cause anyone else discomfort. Of course, if you can consciously make all, or most, of your words loving, kind and supportive, you actually raise the frequencies of those around you. And, in my personal opinion, there are a whole lotta folks that could use that sorta assistance.
2. Walk your Talk
It's all well and good to be spiritual while you're in the fellowship of like minded folks. Bit harder when the busy third dimension intrudes on us. Simplify your life.
Get rid of the extra 'stuff' you keep around you. I'm not just talking emotionally now, I mean physical stuff too. One of the most important phases of our spiritual development is learning non-attachment. It is my feeling that being non-attached leaves us without the need for some of the props and crutches and security blankets we have carried along with us through life. Emotionally and materially, and sometimes this even includes jobs, or people who longer resonate with us. Clearing our lives of clutter and disorder on the material plane is just as important as clearing ourselves mentally and emotionally. The more stuff we have to deal with, the less time we have to attend to our spiritual growth.
Start out by eliminating the negative. If something has been bugging you for awhile, get rid of it. If it's something small like a piece of furniture you really dislike, or something bigger, like not spending time with those people who bring your energy level down. Maybe sounds a bit cold or heartless, but I think one of the greatest goals in our spiritual quest is for absolute clarity...in body and in mind. Just makes sense that an uncluttered, orderly environment will be more conductive to that.
3. Pay attention to your Attention
Remember that where you focus your attention is where you focus your creative energy. Intent plays a major part in manifesting our creations, but some times lack of intent, or misplaced intent, does the same job. If you are watching the news, for example, don't attach your inner attention to what you see. Let your ears hear, let your mind translate, then let it flow back out again. Don't let anything but compassion enter your heart as you watch the struggles of our fellow man. Don't thoughtlessly feed those negative situations by adding your own anger, disgust, fear, etc. Remember you are a creator...your attention and intent makes things happen. Try to be conscious of creating positive, or at least, neutral emotions.
4. Be of Service
To my mind part of being a spiritual person is wanting to be in service to others in some way. I guess all of us would love to win lotto and be able to help hundreds of people, but odds are...well, you know. Even if we can't go to Ethopia or China to help folks, we can be aware of the services we do provide in our daily lives. I wonder if we ever stop to notice the little services we perform for those we love every single day. Well, we should, and we should give ourselves credit for that service. We should, at the same time, be aware of the services others give to us, and be grateful for them.
I dunno about you guys, but I have four-foot family members around here. I am constantly in service to one or another of them. Three cats and three dogs require a whole heap of service. Every time someone hops on your lap, or rubs up against your ankles, they are asking for something. The are asking for love, for attention, for you to demonstrate your care for them. Each time we fill their need, we are providing service.
You folks that still have kids at home, especially teenagers, are probably giving service many times a day. Taxi service for one... When we make a special meal for the family, taking extra time and attention with no other purpose but their enjoyment, we are providing a service. When my husband picks up milk at the store on the way home from work, he is providing a service for my convenience. Get a cup of coffee for a workmate, phone a friend you think might be lonely or unhappy. Give someone an unexpected hug. Simply smile at everyone you pass in the course of a day. All these little things are service. They serve a need, and in most cases that need is love. Everybody wants love, everyone needs love, the world is waaaay short on love.
I think sometimes, in our search for the bigger picture, we fail to notice or fully appreciate all the little pictures we create around ourselves every moment of every day.
If we paid a bit more attention to the ordinary habits of our lives, we might find areas that could use some upgrading. I know it's sorta old fashioned, but there's nothing like common courtesty and good manners. Do unto others...
Don't forget to start with yourself. Be kind and gentle to yourself and all those around you. Earth depends on it. The future of this planet is up to us...big responsibility, let's take it seriously, starting in our own little patch. Remember every energy you send out is a boomarang...
