"The Gayathri Mantra" - is the universal prayer enshrined in the Vedas, the most ancient scriptures of man.

OM BHUR BHUVAH SWAHA
TAT SAVITUR VARENYAM
BHARGO DEVASYA DHEEMAHI
DHIYO YO NAH PRACHODAYAT

Translation - We meditate on the glory of that Being who has created this universe, who is fit to be worshiped, who is the remover of all sins and ignorance. May He enlighten our intellect.

It is addressed to the immanent and transcendent Divine which has been given the name 'Savitha' meaning 'that from which all this is born'.

The Sage Vishwamithra devised the Gayanthri Mantra as a fine drug for the spiritual aspirant; he is also to be revered, for the drug awakens your buddhi and confers upon you wisdom (viveka), discrimination (vichakshana) and non-attachment (vairaaga), the three distinguishing marks of humans, elevating them far above animals.

Gayathri may be considered as having three parts:

1. Praise - Contemplation of the glory of the light that illuminates the upper, middle and lower worlds.

2. Meditation - Picturisation of the infinite grace that flows ever from that light.

3. Prayer - Prayer for full and final liberation, through the awakening of the innate intelligence that pervades the universe as light.

Sai Baba says - "Never give up the Gayathri; you may give up or ignore any other mantra but you should recite the Gayathri at least a few times a day. Preferably it should be recited in the morning at sunrise, at noon, and at sunset.

It will protect you from harm wherever you are, traveling, working or at home. All can use this prayer and be saved by it.
