puppy tails fail to wag
canaries silence their song
galloping stallion slows to a lag
on a road travelled far too long

babies seem to quit being cute
diamonds forget how to shine
sweet tangerine a sour grapefruit
Bottle of bubbly, flat vinegar wine

day overflows with empty
night pours a punishing rain
incremental eternity tempts me to
fall from grace and embrace the pain
